Solar Inverter Types
String Solar Inverters
These inverters are named after the configuration in which they are used. In a string inverter setup, multiple solar panels are connected in series to form a "string." The string inverter is then connected to this string of panels.
Also known as a bidirectional inverters, these are commonly used in hybrid and off-grid solar systems, as well as in energy storage solutions.
These inverters are typically not connected to the utility grid and are often used in remote locations, cabins, boats, and for emergency backup power.
Unlike traditional string inverters, which are typically installed for a group of panels (a string), microinverters are installed on a per-panel basis. This may be a good option for houses with shading issues.
Solar System Monitoring
All solar inverters come with some form of remote monitoring which and is an important tool needed to track system performance. Without reliable and accurate monitoring, it’s difficult to know if a solar system is operating correctly or requires some form of maintenance.
A battery ready system is much like a common grid-connected solar system but uses a hybrid inverter rather than a common solar inverter. Hybrid inverters have battery connections and controls built-in, which makes adding a battery much easier in the future. A battery can be added to any grid-connected solar system using an AC coupled battery
Most common hybrid (energy storage) inverters are able to provide emergency backup power for simple appliances like lights, fridges and TV’s, however if you require a high-powered backup system or need instantaneous backup power (like a UPS system without a delay).
